Problems with Agrivert

As I am sure you are all aware we are experiencing some dreadful smells from the Agrivert site.  The Parish Council are pursuing this issue very hard with Agrivert, Cherwell District Council (CDC), Oxfordshire County Council(OCC) and the Environment Agency (EA).  Although there is some world class buck passing going on, and double talk that Sir Humphrey would be proud of, we will nail this issue.

The problem has arisen as a result of Cherwell District Council taking the decision to “compost” kitchen waste along with garden waste.  In conjunction with other “commercial waste”, this has overwhelmed the capacity of the site.  The net result is that the animal products in the waste are not being composted fully.  As a result, they give off volatile fatty acids (VFA’s) when the compost is stored at the site or spread on the land.

It is the VFA’s that cause the nauseating stench.  When you smell this it is very important that you report it to the Environment Agency.  Their number is

0800 807 7060

Please report it each and every time you smell it. They will record the call, and if Agrivert can’t solve the problem, it is the EA that will revoke their licence, but they need hard evidence to do it with.

It is also very important that your elected officials and council officers  appreciate just how intolerable this situation is, so we would suggest that you also email them each and every time you have a problem:

And Finally:

Harry Waters. Director, Agrivert. HWaters@agrivert.co.uk

PLEASE DO TAKE THE TIME TO MAKE THESES REPORTS EVERY TIME YOU SMELL THE SITE.  IT IS THE ONLY WAY WE WILL MAKE PROGRESS
